McCarran International Airport

Hawaiian Airlines flights to Las Vegas and flights to Hawaii are operated from McCarran International Airport, which is part of the Clark County Airport System. The facility is located one mile from the Strip, three-and-a-half miles from the Convention Center and five miles from Downtown Las Vegas.

Arriving and departing flights are serviced at Terminal 2, which includes eight gates, retail shops, restaurants, snack bars and slots. So waiting for your flight can actually be fun and maybe even profitable!

Two information booths are located in the terminal. Other McCarran amenities include hotel check-in (select properties), internet access, a fitness center, aviation museum and art gallery.

Ground transportation from the airport to the Strip or Downtown via taxi and shuttle can be arranged outside of the baggage claim area. If you're departing McCarran, your ground transportation will take you directly to Terminal 2 for your flight.

Top Travel Tips

  • Vegas sees 320 days of sunshine annually. So bring your shades!
  • Since most of the Las Vegas Valley is situated at over 2,000 feet elevation, winter months can be chillier than you might think – particularly in the evenings. Long pants and a sweater or jacket are recommended if visiting between late October and early April.
  • Since you’re in a desert, your body will need fluids – especially in the summer. Carry a bottle of water, and be sure to bring sunscreen.
  • You need to bring "dress cloths" only if you’re planning to dine at a five-star restaurant or catch a gala show.

Fast Factoids

  • In 1910, a law was passed to make it illegal to gamble in Las Vegas. The Nevada Legislature later approved a legalized gambling bill in 1931.
  • Bugsy Siegel named his casino the Flamingo after the long legs of his showgirl girlfriend.
  • The famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" icon sign was created in 1959.
  • Vegas Vic, the enormous neon cowboy towering over Fremont Street, is the world's largest mechanical neon sign. Fremont Street was closed to traffic in 1994 to make way for the Fremont Street Experience, which opened in December 1995.
  • At more than 1,100 feet, the Stratosphere Hotel and Tower is the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.
  • The famous Las Vegas strip is, for the most part, not within the city limits of Las Vegas. The majority of the strip is located within Clark County.
